(English Abstract)
Travel speed in a road segment is an important parameter for representing road traffic during route planning in a vehicle navigation system. However, various abnormal situations in collecting traffic information, such as GPS (global positioning system) error, prove-car's irregular trajectories, and wireless communication problems, may cause outliers or missing values frequently during speed recording. This paper suggests an effective method for compensating those outliers and missing speed values in order to generate accurate speed information for a vehicle navigation system. To eliminate outliers in a specific time slot, we consider the speed distribution of its neighboring slots as well as its own distribution, unlike existing methods. In our method, compensation for missing values also utilizes the smoothing mechanism that considers the speed trend of its neighboring slots to improve the accuracy of travel speed. Experimental results which use real traffic data demonstrate that the proposed method has achieved considerable accuracy in compensating outliers and missing values.
