만화 식자 작업은 외국 만화에서 글자를 지우고 번역한 글자를 자연스럽게 그려 넣는 작업이다. 식자 작업에서 글자를 지우는 과정은 일반적으로 수작업으로 진행된다. 이는 만화 번역 과정에서 가장 시간이 오래 걸리는 작업이며 많은 노동력을 필요로 한다. 글자 제거 작업을 돕는 툴은 있으나 사람의 개입 없이 완전히 자동화된 툴은 아직 존재하지 않는다. 우리는 식자 과정에서 글자 제거 작업을 자동화하는 시스템 “식질머신”을 개발했다. 식질머신은 만화 이미지에 이미지 분할 기술을 적용하여 글자 영역을 분할한다. 분할된 영역에 존재하는 글자를 제거한 후, 이미지 복원 기술을 적용하여 지워진 영역을 자연스럽게 복원한다. 두 과정에서 모두 딥러닝을 적용하여 충분한 성능을 이끌어 냈다. 딥러닝 모델 학습을 위한 데이터셋 또한 직접 구성하였으며, 성능 향상을 위한 데이터셋의 특징을 밝혀냈다.

(English Abstract) |
Comics typesetting is a process of erasing letters from foreign comics and naturally drawing the translated letters. The process of erasing letters has been performed manually. This is the most time-consuming task in the typesetting process and requires extensive labor. There are tools to facilitate the removal of text, but no fully automated tools exist. We have developed a system “SickZil-Machine” that automates the removal of text during the typesetting process. The SickZilMachine segments the text area by applying the image segmentation to the comics image. After erasing the existing text in the segmented area, the SickZil-Machine naturally restores the area by applying images inpainting. In both processes, the deep learning model was applied to achieve acceptable performance. The dataset for the model training was also constructed and the characteristics of the dataset for performance improvement were revealed
