This paper presents the method to extract purpose statements on the scientific articles, which especially describe the relationship between electromagnetic fields (EMF) and human health. In order to extract purpose statements accurately, the proposed method considers the words having the high similarity to the purpose. For this, the proposed method examines the similarity between all words in the abstract and a purpose statement using the latent semantic analysis (LSA). The experiment results show that the proposed method can accurately extract the purpose statements from the scientific articles.
