(English Abstract)
Desktop as a Service (DaaS) is a cloud service offering virtual desktop environment to users. A desktop delivery protocol is used to deliver the exchanged information (e.g. display updates, user input, etc.) between the DaaS client and the DaaS platform in the cloud. In such protocols, screen compression plays an important role in guaranteeing user¡¯ quality of experience (QoE). Due to the variety of applications in the cloud, the desktop screen contains different types of content, such as text/graphics, images. Thus, a classification should be used to determine preferred type of compressor for the screen content. In this paper, we propose an efficient screen content classification method that separates the captured desktop screen into two types of blocks: text and non-text. This block-based classification is based on morphological edge detection and color counting. The experimental results show highly correct classification and low time consumption of our proposed method.
