(Korean Abstract)
Optical music recognition (OMR) has been extensively developed in recent years. However, most researchers have focused on instrumental music and have ignored lyric area. The appearance of lyrics increases the complexity to the page layout, increases processing time and affects the accuracy of OMR tools. This paper proposes a new approach to extract lyrics quickly and effectively by a frequency count method based on horizontal projection. Our experiment is performed on some printed Korean music images, and has an impressive result and small processing time. These are suitable for mobile applications.
