본 논문에서는 대용량 얼굴 데이터베이스를 위한 빠르고 확장성 있는 얼굴 인식 시스템을 제안한다. 기존의 얼굴 인식 연구들은 주로 정확도 향상에 초점을 맞추고 있어서 대규모 얼굴 데이터베이스에 사용하기에 적합하지 않다. 제안하는 시스템은 우선 얼굴 이미지에서 모든 부분 영역을 비교하는 것이 아니라 눈, 코, 입과 같이 얼굴의 중요한 특징을 나타내는 영역만 비교한다. 또한 대용량 인물 데이터베이스에 대한 효과적인 얼굴 인식을 위해서 인덱스에 기반한 여과와 검증 기법을 사용한다. 질의 얼굴 이미지가 주어졌을 때 제안하는 기법은 먼저 인덱스를 사용하여 비슷한 얼굴 이미지들만 추출하여 검색 공간을 줄인 후 남은 얼굴 이미지들에 대해서 자세한 비교를 통해 최종적으로 가장 유사한 얼굴 이미지들을 찾는다. 실험을 통해 기존 기법과 비교한 결과 제안하는 기법이 정확도를 유지하면서 신속하게 얼굴 인식을 수행함을 확인하였다.

(English Abstract) |
In this paper we propose a fast and scalable face recognition system for a large volume of face database. The existing work focuses on increasing the accuracy of face recognition, and thus is not appropriate for large face databases. The proposed system does not compare every region in face images, but it compares only important regions such as eyes, nose and mouth. It also employs a filtering and verification technique based on an index to deal with large face databases. Given a query face image, the proposed system first retrieves similar face images from the database by using an index and then compares them with the query face image thoroughly. The experimental results show that our method outperforms the existing method in terms of response time without sacrificing the accuracy much.
