(English Abstract)
According to the crime statistics by police (2014), crimes committed in an intoxicated state accounts for 24.9% of the entire crimes, which is a higher rate than the rates of crimes committed with mental disorder, mental retardation, or other types of mental illness, and second highest after the rate of crimes committed in a normal state. Also, of crimes committed in an intoxicated state, 40% are violent crimes, which suggest the high likelihood of violent crimes when the potential criminals are drunk. There is a close correlation between drinking and crimes, and many studies investigated the correlation between the alcohol or density of liquor stores and crime rate. This study raises a question to existing studies on correlation between the density of liquor stores and crime rate, and conducted an in-depth analysis of the effect of the density of liquor stores on the actual crime rate by extracting the high risk drinking rate of areas with a high density of liquor stores. The statistics program R was used for verifying whether the density of local liquor stores is always a reliable independent variable that influences the local crime rate, and the study proposed measures on a national level as well as on a private level be prepared with regards to drinking problems.
