(English Abstract)
In a multi-cell environment, synchronization between base-stations (BS¡¯s) is critical for overall system performance especially in terms of soft hand-over and interference mitigation. Several algorithms for autonomous inter-base-station synchronization (IBS) without using Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver have been already proposed. Those algorithms assumed that the monitored BS¡¯s could exchange their timing information each other regardless of the distance between the BS¡¯s. But that assumption is not realistic because the transmitted signals suffer from propagation loss in the wireless channel environment. Therefore unlike existing algorithms which use the timing information of all monitored BS¡¯s in the entire cellular systems, new algorithms are proposed in the assumption that one BS can exchange the timing information with only their neighbor BS¡¯s. Computer simulations are used to evaluate the performance of the proposed algorithms.
