(English Abstract)
To reduce the waste of electric power and electrical fires caused by the carelessness of the elderly, this paper proposes an Internet-of-Things(IoT)-assisted power control system. The proposed system consists of a power strip, three relays for the power strip control and an open hardware platform with light, temperature and humidity sensors. Especially, it can support IP-based wireless connectivity and social networking through the Telegram Bot to communicate with the elderly and their authorized persons such asa family, a nurse, a counsellor, etc. Through a Telegram application on a smart phone, auser will receive the information from the proposed system such as on/off states of the power strip, a type of devices connected to the power strip, user-defined reference values for the sensors and current measurement values from them. After the user checks the on/off states and the type of devices, he will decide which relays will be controlled and send text messages with the indices of specific relays and corresponding commands to the proposed system. Moreover, he can change the reference values for the sensors to receive any alert messages for power saving and accident prevention. Some experimental results verify successful operations of the proposed system.
