The concepts of cut detection in the simple video sequences are well known, but in the video sequences with special effects, that is, gradual transition scene or scene with flash between the sequential frame, etc., cut detection is very difficult. The twin-comparison method is known for this, but has problems of double calculation when applying threshold.
In this paper, we introduce the existing cut detection methods, and analyze the efficiency and confidence of these by experiments. In particular, we propose a new cut detection algorithm using the motion vector to apply to video sequences with special effects, and compare performances between proposed algorithm and known methods.
For the experiment, we use the synthesized video sequences with special effects. Experimental results show the efficiency of the proposed methods.
