We have developed a MPEG-4 video codec (MoVa) according to 3G-324M. It meets the requirements for MPEG-4 SP@L2 at maximum clock rate of 27MHz. In this paper, we describe a novel implementation of the MoVa utilizing a multi-FPGA to verify algorithm performance prior to ASIC fabrication. For an emulator environment based on an FPGA prototyping board, we derive the bus design to obtain safe communications through multiple FPGA devices. We show what factors contribute to efficient FPGA implementation. |
