논문은 사물인터넷에서 메시지 기반의 통신 프로토콜로 많이 활용되는 MQTT 프로토콜에 시간 필터 기능을 제안하고, Mosquitto 브로커를 분석 수정한 내용을 소개한다. 일반적으로 MQTT를 이용하는 메시지 발행자는 구독자의 처리 능력과 관계없이 센서 값 등을 주기적으로 전송한다. 이로 인해 메시지 구독자가 처리할 수 없는 양의 메시지를 일방적으로 받게 된다. 시간 필터 기능이란 구독자가 메시지를 받고자 하는 주기를 지정하면 MQTT 브로커가 이 주기 이내에 메시지를 전송하지 않도록 하는 기능이다. 본 논문에서는 오픈소스 MQTT 브로커인 Mosquitto를 대상으로 시간 필터 기능을 구현하고, 실험을 통해 시간 필터의 효율성을 검정하였다. 실험 결과는 시간 필터가 Mosquitto 브로커의 네트워크 부하를 급격히 감소시키는 것을 결과를 보여주었다.

(English Abstract) |
This paper proposes the time filter function to the MQTT protocol, which is a message based network protocol widely used in the Internet of Things, and presents an analysis and modification of the Mosquitto broker. Generally, message publishers send sensor values periodically to the MQTT broker, regardless of the capability of subscribers to receive them. Therefore, subscribers unilaterally receive messages even when they do not have enough memory to save them, resulting in lost messages. The time filter is a function that stops the MQTT broker from sending messages within a time period designated by a subscriber. In this paper, we modified Mosquitto, the open source MQTT broker, to add a time filter function and verified the effect of the time filter function through experiments. The experimental results showed that the time filter function significantly lowered the network load of the Mosquitto broker.
