(English Abstract)
This paper shows an example of Novel Engineering class applied in elementary school. Novel Engineering (NE) is a comprehensive way to integrate literacy and engineering. NE has been researched at CEEO(Center for Engineering Education and Outreach) in Tufts University for several years. We applied NE into our elementary school for one semester in South Korea. NE consists of 6 steps; reading, identify problems, design solutions, building, feedback, reconstruct stories. NE can help students improve reading and writing skill, STEAM and software education. Most teachers have difficulty in identifying problems in engineering design process as they have identified problems in their lives until now. NE class starts from book to identify problems. These can help teachers and students solve identifying problems in books around them. So this paper shows a way of teaching NE starting from books.
