(English Abstract)
Ontology is a formal representation of concepts within a specific domain and their relationships. Ontology becomes prevalently used in many areas such as information science, e-commerce, and medical field. In order to enhance the utilization of ontology data, we need a method for effectively visualizing the result of a SPARQL query, which is a well-known query language for searching ontology data. However, existing methods for visualization cannot effectively visualize the query result¡®s context (i.e., conceptual components such as entities and their relationships) needed to explain the query result in the conceptual level. The context sometimes is important for a user to understand the meaning of the result. In order to solve the problem of the existing methods, we propose a visualization method based on entity-relationship model, which maps the query result to entity-relationship model and visualizes the mapped result. The proposed method retrieves the conceptual components from the query result by using its ontology schema information, and then, maps the components to corresponding those of entity-relationship model. Then, the method makes groups from query results by the meaningful unit and visualizes those groups. In this paper, we show algorithms for the proposed method. We also show that the proposed method is more effective than the existing methods for understanding the meaning of the query result by explaining problem of existing methods in view of entity-relationship model.
