인간의 파싱 시스템은 자연어 이해 시스템들에게 큰 문제를 안겨 주는 모호성을 잘 처리한다. 이 점을 이용하고자 최근에 제안된 심리학의 파싱 모델을 기반으로 하여 설계된 자연어 파서를 소개한다. 이 심리학의 파싱 모델에 따르면 여러 개의 가능한 파싱 경로가 동시에 병렬로 추구되나, 파서는 그 중에서 가장 의미적으로 좋은 것들만 남기고 나머지는 될 수 있는 대로 빨리 제거한다. 이러한 파싱 모델을 위해서 개발된 파싱 기법에서는 모든 가능한 파스들을 활성화시키고 비교하여야 하는데 이는 패턴과 액션을 가지는 규칙을 이용하는 파싱시스템을 채택하도록 한다. 이 파싱 시스템은 아직 완성되지 않은 성분의 접착(attachment), 각 규칙에 의한 파싱 상태의 조사, 그리고 attention-shifting 장치 없이 wait-and-see 기능의 달성 등 새로운 특징들을 갖는다.

(English Abstract) |
The human parsing system is good at handling ambiguities which cause a major problem for natural language understanding systems. This paper introduces a natural language parser designed to follow a recently proposed psychological parsing model. According to this psychological parsing model, all possible parses are pursued in parallel but the parser keeps only those parses with best semantics by removing the semantically bad parses as early as possible. A computational framework for this parsing model is developed. The need of activating and comparing all possible parses leads to a parsing system using pattern-action rules which has some new features such as attaching partially built constituents, testing the parsing state by each rule, and achieving the wait-and-see mechanism without using an attention shifting facility.
