PCS(Personal Communications Systems) having the microcell structure may accommodate more subscribers than the cellular system having the macrocell structure. This is because the radius of a cell in microcell structure is much smaller than that in macrocell. To cope with such differences in PCS environment, new channel allocation schemes for PCS are needed. Conventional channel allocation schemes for the macrocell structure are not efficient anymore in PCS. Thus, new channel allocation schemes which are suited in microcell structure are needed to be developed for PCS. Problems which may arise in the case that the channel allocation scheme for macrocell structure is applied to PCS are firstly analyzed. To overcome such problems, new channel allocation schemes for handover and initial calls are proposed in this paper. Performance of proposed schemes is evaluated and compared with other schemes by simulation method. Blocking probability and forced termination probability are used as performance parameters.
