형성뷰는 뷰의 연산 결과를 미리 저장한 형태로서 질의 성능을 향상시키기 위해 질의 처리과정에 활용될 수 있다. 질의 처리에 형성뷰가 이용될 수 있는지의 여부는 질의와 형성뷰의 관계에 따라 결정될 수 있는데, 지금까지의 연구는 형성뷰가 질의에 대해서 일대일 대응이나 포함 대응의 관계가 존재하는 경우만을 고려하였다. 따라서 많은 잠재적으로 유용한 형성뷰가 고려 대상에서 제외되었다. 본 논문에서는 집계 함수가 포함된 질의에 대해서 형성뷰를 이용하여 질의를 재구성하는 새로운 방법을 제안한다. 제안된 방법은 질의에 언급되지 않는 테이블을 포함한 형성뷰까지 고려하였으며 형성뷰에 포함되지 않은 속성들을 복구하여 질의 처리에 이용함으로써 형성뷰의 이용 범위를 확장하였다. 이를 위해 질의 재구성에 이용할 형성뷰를 탐색하는 조건과 질의를 재구성하는 효율적인 알고리즘을 제시한다. 이 방법은 기존의 형성뷰의 이용 범위를 확대하여 향후 질의 처리 시스템에 효율적으로 적용될 수 있을 것이다.

(English Abstract) |
Materialized views which are stored views of the database offer opportunities for significant performance gam in query evaluation by providing fast access to pre-computed data. Whether a materialized view can be used in answering a query depends on the relationship between the view and the query. In previous works, only one-to-one or containment mapping from views to a query has been used and, as a result, certain potential1y useful materialized views were excluded from consideration. Proposed in this paper are new ways of utilizing materialized views in answering a query with "group-by" clause and aggregation. Views including relations not referred to in the given query are utilized. Attributes missing from a view can be recovered under certain conditions. We identify the conditions where a view can be used in reformulating a query and the algorithms that can effectively test these conditions and reformulate the query. The proposed conditions and corresponding algorithms provide a significant and practical extension to the usability of materialized views in query processing.
