As means of representing a 3D object, engineering drawings are widely used in industrial site. However, this method requires tremendous combinatorial searches and complicated geometric operations of 3D candidate elements because of the loss of semantic information in the process of orthographic projection. Especially, the process of reconstruction from two orthographic views generates many ghost elements resulted from the loss of one view. This paper proposes the two-phase algorithm that can reconstruct polyhedral 3D objects from two orthographic views fast through efficiently reducing ghost elements. In the first phase, we generate minimal 3D candidate elements that are indispensable for the coincidence with two orthographic views. Then, we reconstruct partial objects whose projections are coinciding with two orthographic views. In the second phase, we reconstruct geometrically valid complete objects by patching the perpendicular faces into the partial objects. The experimental results show that the two-phase algorithm generates fewer 3D candidate elements and reconstructs polyhedral 3D objects much faster than previous ones. |
