In this paper, we propose a proxy-based scheme to setup connections and share media contents sharing (through streaming) among UPnP(universal plug and play)-enabled home networks. We design a proxy module named “CombinePRO” that extends HG (home gateway) with an UPnP-compatible protocol. By relaying SSDP (simple service discovery protocol) messages defined in UPnP device architecture, the CombinePRO module provides connectivity among different home networks. For media contents sharing, it is designed to support simplified many-to-one proxy-based streaming. By checking the availability of system/network resources and by following the UPnP QoS architecture, the proposed and partially implemented CombinePRO module is expected to offer more reliable streaming service among digital homes.
