본 논문은 위키피디아 데이터의 백링크 정보를 활용하여 개념들 간의 계층 구조를 자동 구성하는 새로운 기법을 제안한다. 개념 계층 구조는 정보검색 및 텍스트마이닝 기법의 개선을 위해 중요한 자료구조로 사용된다. 실제로 대표적인 개념 계층 구조로 Open Directory Project(ODP)가 있는데 이는 최적의 검색 결과를 얻기 위한 가장 포괄적인 웹 디렉토리로 평가 받고 있다. 하지만 ODP의 구축을 포함하여 기존 개념 계층 구조의 구축 기법들은 사람의 수작업에 의존하거나 텍스트 문서에 출현하는 주요 단어를 개념으로 승화하여 이들 간의 개념적 위상관계를 도출한다. 본 논문은 고품질의 개념트리를 구성하기 위해 위키피디아 페이지 집합을 개념 공간으로 간주하는 전략을 취한다. 기본 아이디어는 보편성을 가지는 위키페이지를 선별하여 이들 간의 백링크 관계를 확률적으로 해석하여 개념적 포함 관계를 산출하는 것이다. 제안 기법에 의해 생성된 개념트리는 수작업으로 구축된 ODP의 계층 관계를 자동으로 도출할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라 현재 시점의 개념들간의 관계까지 도출하는 매우 실용적 기법이라 할 수 있다.

(English Abstract) |
In this paper, we propose a novel method of automatically building hierarchical concept tree using Wikipedia backlink information. The concept tree is used as an important data structure to improve information retrieval and text mining techniques. In fact, a typical hierarchy of concepts, called Open Directory Project (ODP) has been recognized as the most comprehensive web directory used to obtain the best search results. However, conventional methods of building concept trees such as ODP are dependent upon manual job, or regard each of words occurring in textual documents as a concept and then derive conceptual hierarchical relationships among concepts. Our strategy is that a set of particular Wikipedia pages are considered to be a concept space in order to build up high quality concept trees. The key idea behind the proposed method is that after selecting only Wikipedia pages (shortly, wikipages) with general senses, the conceptual subsumption relationships among the wikipages are statistically calculated by using their backlink information. The concept tree produced by the proposed method contains not only hierarchical relationships of ODP that is manually built up, but also newly defined hierarchical relationships that reflects the current trends.
