본 논문의 목적은 전역 직렬성과 전역 교착상태를 일관된 방식으로 다루기 위한 멀티데이타베이스 트랜잭션 관리의 이론적 근거를 제공하는데 있다. 이를 위해, 자치적이고 이질적이며 실패가 없는 멀티데이타베이스 환경에서 전역 직렬성을 보장하기 위한 충분 조건으로 엄격한 충돌 직렬성을 제안한다. 또한, 모든 전역 부트랜잭션이 실행을 시작할 때마다 엄격한 방법을 통해 엄격한 충돌 직렬성을 만족시킴으로써 전역 교착상태가 발생하지 않음을 보인다. 특히, 본 논문에서는 전역 트랜잭션간의 비정상적인 직접 충돌을 식별하여 기존의 전역 직렬성 접근 방법에의 영향을 분석한다. 본 논문에서 취하는 교착 상태 회피 정책은 간결함과 일관성의 장점을 가진다. 즉, 전역 트랜잭션 관리자는 전역 수준에서의 특별한 메카니즘 없이 전역 트랜잭션 데이타베이스 연산들의 인터리빙(interleaving)을 허용한다.

(English Abstract) |
Our objective is to provide a theoretical foundation for multidatabase transaction management that deals with global serializability and global deadlocks in a uniform manner. For the end, we first propose Rigid Conflict Serializability (R-CSR) as a sufficient condition for the global transaction manager to ensure global serializabllity in autonomous, heterogeneous, and failure-free multidatabase environments. Subsequently, it is shown that the enforcement of R-CSR through a rigid method at the time each global subtransaction begins its execution avoids global deadlocks. In particular, we identify abnormal direct conflicts among global transactions and analyze their impacts on the previous approaches to global serializability. The deadlock-free policy in this paper seems to be attractive because of the simple and uniform approach it takes. The simplicity lies in the fact that the global transaction manager can allow any interleavings among normal database operations belonging to global transactions without any mechanisms at global level.
