영어 의사소통능력을 향상시키기 위해서는 읽기, 쓰기, 듣기, 말하기의 종합적인 교육이 필요하나 우리나라에서는 쓰기 교육이 제대로 이루지지 않아 영어 작문에 어려움을 겪는 사람들이 많다. 또한 영어 작문에 대한 개별 교육을 받는 것은 금전적, 시간적으로 한계가 있다. 기존의 영어 작문 보조 시스템들은 문법을 고려하지 않은 채 단어만을 추천하며 별도의 프로그램을 설치해야하는 불편함이 있다. 본 논문에서는 영어가 제2외국어인 사용자들을 위한 영어 작문 보조 시스템을 제안한다. 제안하는 시스템은 사용자가 영어 문장을 작성할 때 다음에 올 품사와 단어를 실시간으로 추천해준다. 이를 위해 문법적 정확도가 높은 영어 문장들을 수집하고 자연어 처리를 통해 분석한 후 구문 트리를 표현하는 XML 문서로 저장한다. 사용자가 입력한 단어 연속을 기반으로 XML 질의 언어인 XQuery를 이용하여 추천할 품사와 단어를 구한다. 또한 원하는 구문 구조를 가진 문장들을 쉽게 검색할 수 있으며, 웹 기반으로 구현되어 별도의 프로그램 설치가 필요 없고 사용자의 접근이 쉽다. 약 55만개의 문장 데이터베이스와 1000개의 테스트 문장을 이용하여 실험한 결과, 제안한 시스템의 정확도는 평균 60%, 명사에 대해서는 95%이었고, PC 서버에서 1.5초 내에 추천이 가능하였다.

(English Abstract) |
To improve English communication skills, comprehensive education of reading, writing, listening, and speaking is required. However, many people in Korea have difficulties in writing English because writing education is not successful. In addition, it is financially and temporally limited to receive individual education for English writing. Conventional aiding systems for English writing recommend only words without consideration of grammar. Furthermore, existing systems are inconvenient because they need to have a separate program installation. In this paper, we propose an aiding system for English writing for users of English as a second language. The proposed system suggests a next word and the part of speech of the word in real time as users write an English sentence. To do this, English sentences with high grammatical accuracy are collected, analyzed through natural language processing, and stored as an XML document, which represents syntax trees. Based on the word sequence inputted by the user, XQuery, an XML query language, is used to obtain parts of speech and words to be recommended. In addition, our system allows users to search sentences with desired syntactic structure. Because the system is web-based, there is no need to install a program separately, and it is easy for users to access. Experiments using 550,000 sentence databases and 1000 test sentences showed that the accuracy of our system was 60% for the average and 95% for the nouns. The recommendation process can be done within 1.5 seconds using a PC server.
